The Lesson Program At Misty River Ranch

We run a wide variety of lessons for all standards at the English Riding Academy here at Misty River. We have five coaches, we run seven days a week, and cater for all standards from beginner to advanced pupils, who may or may not, own their own horse. We teach equitation, hunters, dressage, stadium jumping and three day event preparation as well as western coaching.

We take students from the age of 8 upwards. For children younger than this, half hour "Make friends with your pony" sessions are available.

Ordinarily, lessons are sold in blocks of five and start on predetermined dates throughout the year. Students are placed in a group according to age, experience and riding skill. Lessons take place on weekdays both during the day and in the evenings and during the day at weekends. Students who have not ridden before or who are returning after a gap take the "Get Horse Happy" course prior to joining their group. This consists of two, one hour private sessions teaching you, or refreshing you, on how to approach, lead, groom, tack up and starting to ride. More private lessons sessions are available if needed.

Introduction to trail riding courses

For those of you who are planning on going on a trail riding holiday this year and want to know what you have let yourself in for! This fun but informative series of five evening lessons will teach you how to be safe around horses: how to approach your horse, catch and lead him in from the pasture, how to groom and tack up. Mounting and dismounting, position in the saddle, how to hold those reins, stopping and starting through to sitting that jog and loping for the more adventurous. Series starts in the barn and arena and culminates in a trail ride. Four, one hour long sessions and a final trail ride of up to two hours. Enjoy and get more out of your trail riding holiday this year. This series could save you days and save your butt.

The Ride Fast Program

Need to learn to ride in a hurry? We have taught many people to ride over the years who needed to pick up a new skill or just to improve, but fast. We have taught potential polo players, actors who needed to ride for a part and even ordinary human beings who just wanted to impress a new partner. Intensive courses can be arranged on a tailor made basis to suit your needs and timetable. Be prepared to work hard. Very. Accomodation available or arranged.
